Artist’s Bio
Ingrid Cowan Hass grew up in the foothills of North Carolina and has lived in
Greenbelt since 1998. She majored in Studio Art with a minor in Music from
Smith College in Northampton, MA and holds a Master’s degree in Opera
Performance from the School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC. Ingrid is a
professional musician, a mezzo-soprano, and performs regularly in opera, oratorio
and recital in the greater Washington DC area. She teaches voice, piano and
various art classes to adults and children and maintains an art studio in her
home.
Music, theater, and visual arts have been an intricate part of her life from a
young age. These interests merged a few years ago when she and her husband
Ole Hass started a puppet company. Their shows feature original scripts,
beautifully hand-crafted puppets and sets, and many songs, creating unique
artistic performances for children and adults alike. Beech Tree Puppets
(www.beechtreepuppets.com) serves the greater Washington Baltimore area,
performing in public and private schools, as well as libraries, small theaters, and
public meeting spaces.
Ingrid has shown her work at local venues in Greenbelt including the New Deal
Café where she has had two solo shows, Greenbelt Arts Center, and the Labor
Day Art Festival Art Show. She has also had several shows at the National
Arboretum, the Meeting House Gallery in Columbia, MD, Paint Branch Unitarian
Church in Adelphi, MD, in Rutherford County, NC, at the Annual Celebration of
the Arts, the County Arts Council in Forest City, as well as the Rutherford
County Arts Guild.
